Tom Hiddleston is overwhelmed he’s in the running to be the next James Bond.
The 35-year-old actor has been starring in BBC show The Night Manager, in which he plays a British spy. Through that role, Tom has been linked to taking over from Daniel Craig as the next actor to play 007 – a prospect he can’t get his head around.
“As somebody who grew up with Sean Connery and Roger Moore, when you mention it there’s a part of me that goes, ‘Really? are you kidding?’ ” Tom laughed during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live
on Tuesday night (22Mar16). “But I feel like who is going to be the
next James Bond is the nation’s favourite pub conversations. It’s up
there with ‘Who’s going to win The X Factor? When is the England national side going to live up to its full potential? Is Britain going to leave the EU?’ “
Tom also had his own suggestion for who he thinks would be a good replacement for Daniel, laughing: “I feel like Larry David would make a good James Bond!”
The handsome actor’s latest role sees him star as American music legend Hank Williams in I Saw the Light, due for release this week (25Mar16).
Tom admits he felt a great deal of responsibility taking on the part, because he wanted to do the singer’s family proud.
“I took it quite seriously. I take the
responsibility seriously,” he said. “I knew as a British actor going in
to play such a loved icon of American music I had to commit myself to
it. I was very dedicated to it. I went to Nashville and I lived with a
musician called Rodney Crowell. I can yodel now. There comes a time in a man’s life when he’s called upon to yodel.”Tom then proceeded to demonstrate his
yodelling skills, with Jimmy joking that he would be throwing away his
chance to play Bond by doing so.
