Annihilation is the most thoughtful science fiction movie since Arrival. Annihilation is a 2018 science fiction horror film written and directed by Alex Garland, based on the novel of the same name by Jeff VanderMeer. Annihilation is 2018’s best science fiction movie about relationships.Annihilation shows us the different ways people can deal with their trauma, and the majority of those options lead to complete dissolution of self: not a change, but destruction. Annihilation. 2018’s Annihilation tackles this grim reality. The question of who we become and how it impacts others lives at the heart of the movie, despite conversations about the film often focusing on alien terraforming or mime-like beings who morph into human shape. The real surprise: Annihilation ends with an embrace. Annihilation doesn’t give us any advice in the prescriptive sense; there are no instructions on how to navigate through the different phrases of our lives or how to let go of people who grow past us. But the film begins and ends with two people who have been through something literally life-changing, and they hold each other, find comfort in each other, despite the litter of bodies left in their wake.

It stars Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny, and Oscar Isaac. The story follows a group of military scientists who enter "The Shimmer", a mysterious quarantined zone of mutating plants and animals.

Annihilation was released theatrically in Canada and the United States by Paramount Pictures on February 23, 2018, and in China on April 13, 2018. Across all three countries, it grossed $43 million against a production budget between $40–55 million. It was released digitally by Netflix in a number of other countries on March 12, 2018. The film received praise for its visuals, acting, direction, and thought-provoking story. According to Jonathan Pile of Empire magazine, the film addresses "depression, grief and the human propensity for self-destruction".

Plot Explanation :

The plot revolves around the arrival of alien cells on Earth. These cells arrive along with a meteor. In a nutshell, the film explains the behaviour of the alien cells on Earth with the analogy of how cancer cells affect humans. So, before we get to the kaleidoscopic alien, let’s take a quick look at the characters.

Lena (Natalie) – Currently a biologist, formerly a soldier for 7 years. She’s married to Kane, a soldier. She’s having an affair with a guy named Daniel. Though we are shown that Lena is happily married to Kane, the nature of their relationship pushes her to cheat on her husband during his calls of duty.

Dr. Ventress (Jennifer Jason Leigh) – She’s a psychologist who is suffering from cancer.

Anya Thorensen (Gina Rodriguez) – She’s a paramedic who was/is an addict.

Josie Radek (Tessa Thompson) – She’s a physicist who’s struggling with life. She’s cut her wrists several times in the past.

Cass Sheppard (Tuva Novotny) – She’s a geologist. She’s lost her daughter to leukemia.

Kane (Oscar Isaac) – A soldier. He’s married to Lena. He’s committed to their relationship.

Summary of Annihilation (2018) Full Movie : Lena (Natalie Portman), a biologist and former soldier, joins a mission to uncover what happened to her husband inside Area X - a sinister and mysterious phenomenon that is expanding across the American coastline.
